It was stated that EA Sports is planning to change the name of FIFA for the football game after FIFA 22. The current 10-year agreement between the two, which will expire in 2022, is worth $150 million. However, this value may decrease if EA decides to rebrand the FIFA game.

However, a report in the New York Times mentions FIFA’s new monetary demands to EA. According to information provided by people familiar with the matter, FIFA charges EA over $1 billion for each World Cup cycle. The next FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar in late 2022. This championship will also take place just before the agreement between EA and FIFA expires.

People who spoke to the New York Times and are close to the negotiations between the two companies state that the two-year talks between EA and FIFA have stopped due to such problems. Cam Weber, general manager of the EA Sports group, also seemed to acknowledge this in a blog post he published last week. “Looking ahead, we are also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games,” Weber said.
